Why do we need Transmission systems.

A transmission system in a vehicle is like the middleman between the engine and the wheels. It controls the power generated by the engine and how it gets transferred to the wheels. Here are some key points explaining why we need a transmission system:

  1. Control Speed and Torque: - The engine operates within a certain RPM (Revolutions Per Minute) range. The transmission allows the engine to operate in its optimal power range while providing a wide range of output speed and torques.

  2. Reverse Direction: - Without a transmission system, car could only move forward. Transmission allows the wheels to rotate for the opposite direction. enabling the vehicle to reverse.

  3. Disconnect the Engine from Wheels: - Transmission give us the chance to keep the engine start but no contact with wheels. we call this as neutral gear mode.

Different types of Transmission
systems.

Manual Transmission System.

Manual Transmission systems, also known as a manual gearbox or standard transmission, use a driver-operated clutch, usually engaged and disengaged by a foot pedal or hand lever. Better fuel economy and greater control over the vehicle are a few advantages of this type of transmission system. However, the complexity of managing the clutch and gears for new users is a disadvantage of manual transmission systems.





Automated Manual Transmission system (AMT).

AMT is a unique type of transmission system that combines the cost-effectiveness of manual transmission with the ease of automatic transmission. AMT transmissions have a hydraulic actuator system mounted inside the engine, which operates the clutch and gears. AMT systems are linked to the ECU (Electronic Control Unit) of the car, which provides input, and the output controls the gears and clutch. Offering better fuel efficiency than traditional automatic transmissions, we can consider this as an advantage of systems like this. A significant disadvantage of AMT systems is that the driver does not have direct control over the vehicle. Cars equipped with this system are popular in Europe and some developing markets.



Automatic Transmission system (AT). 

Automatic Transmission is a type of multispeed transmission used in motor vehicles that does not require any driver command to change forward gears under normal driving conditions. AT systems use a planetary gearset, hydraulic controls, and a torque converter. Like Manual Transmission, there is no clutch or gear shift in Automatic Transmission systems. The ease of use is the main advantage of AT systems, and lower fuel efficiency compared to Manual Transmission systems is one disadvantage. Due to the high demand for electric and hybrid vehicles, the number of vehicles equipped with AT systems is increasing day by day.
